Volunteer Process
Thank you for your interest in joining our volunteer community. To become a camp volunteer:
1) Fill out a volunteer application which includes permission for Comfort Zone to conduct a criminal background and personal reference check.
2) Sign up for, and complete a six hour volunteer training which covers common questions and concerns related to childhood grief as well as Comfort Zone volunteer expectations.
3) Sign up for camp through the My Comfort Zone section, which you will have access to after filling out a volunteer application. Please note that we cannot guarantee that you will be matched as a Big Buddy or assigned a volunteer role for each camp that you select.
4) Comfort Zone will confirm the camp date(s) in which you are interested to volunteer through your My Comfort Zone profile and by e-mail.
5) About one month prior to your selected camp, Comfort Zone will e-mail you to confirm your availability. Note that this is done for our planning purposes and does not guarantee that you will be matched for camp. But, please make sure to reserve the weekend for camp until otherwise notified.
6) Approximately one week prior to camp, Comfort Zone will let you know if you have been assigned a role at camp through your My Comfort Zone profile and e-mail. At this time, you will receive additional information you will need for camp.
7) If you have been matched as a Big Buddy, Comfort Zone will make your camper’s information available to you through your My Comfort Zone profile.
8) On camp weekend, arrive at camp at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Camp ends at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday.
