A fun and safe place for grieving children.

Volunteer FAQs

What is Comfort Zone Camp?

Comfort Zone Camp is a non-profit bereavement camp for children ages 7-17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or legal guardian (18 year olds still attending high school also qualify for these camps). Comfort Zone also hosts one Young Adult Camp for 18-22 year olds.

What do volunteers do at camp?

Are volunteers needed?

Yes, our camp is reliant on volunteer support. We need approximately 85-90 volunteers each Comfort Zone Camp weekend. As our camp offerings continue to grow, so does our need for volunteers. Click here to view the volunteer roles needed for each camp.

Do I have to have had a personal loss to be a volunteer?

No, although many volunteers have experienced a personal loss, it is not a requirement. All you need is a heart for grieving children.

What do I need to do to be a volunteer?

Interested volunteers can apply online, or request a hard-copy application by calling (866) 488-5679 or e-mailing [email protected]. Volunteers also need to attend a six-hour training and pass a criminal background and personal reference check.

If I’m selected to volunteer at camp, how much notification am I given before camp weekend?

We ask that you hold the weekend you are interested in volunteering for until otherwise noted. Because of our busy camp schedule, official acceptance notification happens approximately one week prior to the camp.

Can I volunteer more than one time?

There is no restriction on how many times someone can volunteer - in fact, we love repeat volunteers. We aim to have a balance of new and repeat volunteers at each camp.
